Before I receive my first ticket I considered my self a good driver, but just knowing how to press the gas pedal and the brakes do not make you an expert in driving. I got my first ticket when I was returning from a party with my friends ate 2:30 am. I was focused on the road and looking at both sides to see if there was not any careless drivers around. Well, I focused too much on it and I forgot about some of the basic driving skills, in this situation was about the traffic signal. I was about to make a right turn, but luckless the turn had a traffic signal hanging near the traffic light that says " no right turn on red" and I had in my mind that almost all right turns were okay to turn on red, well that signal wasn't one of them. I saw a flash and that scared me a bit and I froze because I knew that, that picture would generate a ticket that would arrive in my residence in a couple of days, and start making many other mistakes, like braking too hard, and driving below the lowest speed limit of a highway because I was thinking about the ticket. That experience made me realize that To be a good driver you need to be very careful and calm. Driving seems to be easy but is necessary several skills to make it "easy". below I will talk about some basic driving skills you have to have in order to be somewhat "good" at driving.

1st: Know your vehicle, meaning that you should know what the different lights in your car dashboard mean, how big is your vehicle, is the steering wheel hydraulic, electric or hybrid? How stable is your car when driving it in a highway for example
2nd: Know how to use your pedals correctly (brake and gas pedal), meaning: breaking smoothly, so you can gradually slow down your vehicle until you stop, and accelerating smoothly, so you can slowly increase the vehicle's speed within the posted limit.
3rd: Signals and headlight: Beware of stops signs, know how to approach an intersection, and know that running a red ligth is bad idea. The link below contain more information about intersections and headlights.https://bitly.li/NweGK
4th: Maintaining an appropriate speed: Keep calm and don't drive like if you were in a race. That's a common mistake especially when you create in your mind some excuses to do so. For example, the highway is completely empty, so why not speed, right? Wrong answer don't speed, even if there is no one nearby, you can still put yourself at risk.
*TIP: The faster the vehicle speed the less stable it is and the easier is to lose its control.
5th: Know how to change lanes: Firstly know that your turn signal does not mean that you have the permission to turn. Its function is to warn the other drivers that you have the intention to turn. Wait until is safe to do so.
6th: Be focus on your task, which in this case is driving: Don't get distracted with phone messages or calls, adjusting music or controls, setting up GPS route, giving more attention to the passengers in your car than the road, applying make, zoning out, meaning: daydreaming while driving.
